Asitha hits back after Greaves, Hope tons threatens SL: 2nd Test, Day 4 (Antigua)

Sri Lanka edged ahead on day four of the second Test after bowling West Indies out for 499 to take a 50-run first-innings lead.

The hosts mounted a superb recovery through Justin Greaves, who produced a magnificent career-best 180, and captain Shai Hope, who contributed 112 in a marathon partnership that frustrated the visitors for much of the day.

However, Asitha Fernando led Sri Lanka’s fightback with an outstanding five-wicket haul of 5/130, ensuring the tourists claimed a crucial first-innings advantage.

Batting again, Sri Lanka reached 92/2 by stumps to extend their overall lead to 142 runs. Dinesh Chandimal remained unbeaten on 40 after guiding the innings through the closing stages, while the visitors lost two wickets before the close.

With eight second-innings wickets still in hand and a growing advantage, Sri Lanka head into the final day in a strong position to push for victory and level the two-match series.

Sri Lanka 549 for 9 dec and 92 for 2 (Chandimal 40*) lead West Indies 499 (Greaves 180, Hope 112, Asitha 5-130) by 142 runs.
