Teenage spinner Lawes announces arrival on big stage (Providence)

19 year old Vitel Lawes made an impressive debut for the West Indies against New Zealand at Providence Stadium, vindicating the selectors’ decision to fast-track him into the national side despite having no senior professional experience.

The teenage left-arm wrist-spinner displayed remarkable composure, claiming 3 for 54 from his 10 overs, including the prized wickets of Henry Nicholls, Mark Chapman and Michael Bracewell, to help restrict New Zealand to 267.

West Indies completed a comfortable seven-wicket victory.
