SL collapse to Jacks spin as England seals crushing win: 1st ODI (Durham)

Will Jacks had a fine allround showing as England opened the three-match ODI series with a convincing 89-run victory over Sri Lanka at Chester-le-Street, taking a 1-0 lead.

After electing to bat, the hosts overcame a middle-order wobble to post 265, thanks largely to Harry Brook's fluent 67 from 69 deliveries and Joe Root's composed 44.

Will Jacks then provided crucial late impetus with an unbeaten 46, ensuring England finished with a competitive total.

Sri Lanka never managed to build momentum in reply as England's disciplined attack kept the pressure on throughout the chase. The visitors were dismissed for 176 in 37 overs, with Jacks producing a match-winning spell of 5 for 22.

Dunith Wellalage offered the only notable resistance, striking a brisk 45 from 36 balls, but regular wickets extinguished any hopes of a recovery as England sealed a commanding win in the series opener.

England 265 (Brook 67, Jacks 46*, Colombage 3-44, Asitha 3-53) beat Sri Lanka 176 (Wellalage 45, Mendis 42, Jacks 5-22) by 89 runs.
