Afghanistan strike back after bright Tanzid start for Bangladesh: 1st Test, Day 1 (Abu ...

Bangladesh finished Day 1 of their one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on 317/8, leaving themselves with plenty of work to do after letting a dominant opening position slip.

A blistering opening stand between Tanzid Hasan (83 off 71) and Shadman Islam (67) powered Bangladesh to 124 without loss before lunch. However, a spirited Afghan bowling resurgence dismantled the middle order.

Mohammad Saleem Safi claimed 3/70 and Yamin Ahmadzai took 2/62, removing key figures including Mominul Haque (39), captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (29), and Mushfiqur Rahim for a duck.

Litton Das anchored the later order with a valuable 53, but continuous breakthroughs after the interval stalled the innings. Unbeaten tail-enders Nayeem Hasan (11) and Taijul Islam (4) managed to push the total past the 315-run mark by stumps, though Afghanistan firmly holds the momentum heading into Day 2.

Bangladesh 317 for 8 (Tanzid 83, Shadman 67, Saleem 3-70) vs Afghanistan.
