India reached 134-4 in their second innings an overall lead of 285.
Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh counterattacked late in the day to restore India's supremacy after the hosts had been reduced to 80-4.
Earlier, England conceded a firstinnings lead of 151 after collapsing from to 282-6 to 302 all out.
