History repeated: Centenary Test (MCG, 1977)

The Centenary Test commemorated a century of AngloAustralian Test cricket.

The match takes its place among the great games of test cricket as Australia won by 45 runs the same margin as that of the inaugural Test at the same ground in 1877.

Debutant David Hookes threatened to destroy England and famously smashed Tony Greig for 5 successive fours as Australia's set England 463 to win. Tony Greig's team managed 417 an astonishing feat on a wearing wicket.

Derek Randall's 174 earned him manofthematch honours. Dennis Lillee bowled 34 overs battling fatigue and bowling off a reduced runup to finish with 11 wickets.
