Mitchell Johnson bowled a hostile spell to take 3-37. He forced Graeme Smith out of the series with a broken finger and then hit Jacques Kallis on the chin an injury that required 3 stiches.

South Africa trail Australia by 214 runs after a devastating spell of bowling by Johnson reduced the hosts to 138-7. Only JP Duminy remained resolute with an unbeaten 73.
