Katich puts Australia in command: 1st Test, Day 1 (Gabba)

Opener Simon Katich 92 fell short of a deserved century as Australia made confident progress to finish on 322-5 after a late flurry of wickets.

Jerome Taylor removed Shane Watson for a duck to make a good start. But Katich 92 added 126 for the second wicket with captain Ricky Ponting 55 with Mike Hussey contributing 66.

Dwayne Bravo with 2-66 was the pick of the West Indies bowlers.
