Coming together at a precarious 102-7, Jonathan Trott (149 not out) and Stuart Broad (125 not out) put on an unbroken 244 stand for the 8th wicket as England finished on 346-7.
Earlier, 18 year old Mohammad Amir removed Alastair Cook with the third ball of the day and finished with 6-73 on the way to becoming the youngest bowler to take 50 test wickets.
