Exposed: Zulqarnain Haider's Press conference in London

Zulqarain speaks for the first time infront of English and Pakistani Media in London since leaving Dubai quietly just before 5th ODI vs SA on Monday the 8th Nov English Media was more interested to know the nature of threats, sources and evidence of any match fixing involvement by players. They also asked Zulqarnain how far he is willing to go to co-operate with ICC to investigate corruption in cricket. On the other hand Pakistani Media wanted to know why he didn't inform his Team Management, PCB or ICC about these threats. They wanted to know why did he want to claim Asylum in the UK while he has no threats from Pakistani authority whatsoever.None of his family members now want to join him in UK either. Journalists also tried to probe further and questioned his contradictory statements and u-turn. Initially he showed lack of trust in PCB and Pakistan authority but later contacted Shamsul Hassan Wajid, Pakistan's High Commissioner in London and also tried to negotiate with PCB and asked for security for himself and family if returns to Pakistan. He can still join his team in Dubai if his father asks. (What an obedient son! Why did he run away in the first place when his brother and wife were stopping him?) The question is who has misled him to leave Dubai so mysteriously and why didn't he contact anybody from PCB or ICC before? Has he really received genuine threats from bookies or he has been bribed to leave? He asks to record telephone calls of all the players to uncover the truth. He did not tell his team management anything because he said he did not want to jeopardise their safety and security. There is something more beneath the water. Either it was all pre-planned or he got genuine threat but how can he run away like that from Dubai whereas laws and security arrangements are far tighter there compared to Pakistan and it is considered a safer place, bearing in mind ICC's head quarter is also based in Dubai. There are so many mind boggling questions which will unfold in the next few days as the investigation proceeds further.Nov 2010
