Australia ripped out South Africa's last six batsmen for 25 runs to bowl the hosts out for 266 to take control of a match the tourists have to win to level the series.
The Proteas were coasting at 241-4 at tea with AB de Villiers (64) and Ashwell Prince (50) posting a century partnership when the collpase took place.
