England hold nerve in thrilling 9 run win: 1st ODI (Rajkot)

England stopped a run of 13 straight one-day international losses away to India with a nine-run win after posting a formidable 325.

Alastair Cook (75) and Ian Bell (88) put on 158 and Samit Patel applied the finishing touches with a 20-ball 44.

In reply, India's openers made a flying start, and three batsmen - Gautam Gambhir (52), Yuvraj Singh (61) and Suresh Raina (50) - scored half-centuries until James Tredwell took 4 wickets to apply the breaks.

England 325 for 4 (Bell 85, Cook 75) beat India 316 for 9 (Yuvraj 51, Gambir 52, Tredwell 4-44) by nine runs.
