Australia had been expected to struggle against spin but it took R Ashwin (5-63) to cut through the Aussie line-up in a single session to inflict an innings-and-135-run win.
This was India's second-biggest win over Australia and MS Dhoni's 22nd, making him the country's most successful Test captain ever.
