Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed cracked 61 not out as Pakistan survived some tense moments before notching up a thrilling three-wicket win over a shoddy Sri Lankan outfit.
Pakistan looked to have thrown away their victory chance after an astonishing collapse from 74-0 to 162-7 before Sarfraz’s 61 not out and Mohammad Amir’s 28 not out saw them home with an eighth-wicket partnership of 75.
A suspect Sri Lankan team dropped multiple chances to let Pakistan off the hook. The costliest was when Sarfraz was dropped on 38 when Thisara Perera at mid-on floored a sitter.
Earlier, after a solid start got them to 160-3 in 30 overs, Sri Lanka suffered a middle-order collapse of their own on the way to 236 all out.
Pakistan 237 for 7 (Sarfraz 61*, Zaman 50, Pradeep 3-60) beat Sri Lanka 236 (Dickwella 73, Junaid 3-40, Hasan 3-43, Amir 2-53) by three wickets.
