Spinner Ravichandra Ashwin and paceman Ishant Sharma formed a portent combination as India skittled out Sri Lanka for 205.
Skipper Dinesh Chandimal top-scored with 57 while opener Dimuth Karunaratne made 51 as Sri Lanka batted first after winning the toss.
Ashwin took 4-67 and fellow spinner Ravindra Jadeja and Sharma picked three each.
