England on high after Root, Anderson fightback: 2nd Test, Day 4 (Adelaide)

Skipper Joe Root made an unbeaten 67 to keep England in with a slim chance of a remarkable win chasing a historic 354.

On a tense day of high drama, Root’s defiant knock enabled England to close at 176-4. Australia crucially lost both of their reviews within an over.

Earlier Jimmy Anderson took 5-43 to skittle out Australia for 138.

England 227 and 4 for 176 (Root 67*) need another 178 runs to beat Australia 8 for 442 dec and 138 (Anderson 5-43).
