Mendis pilots SL win over Bangladesh: 1st T20 (Dhaka)

Makeshift opener Kusal Mendis was declared Player of the Match as Bangladesh lost to Sri Lanka by 6 wickets to concede a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Dasun Shanaka and Thisara Perera gave Bangladesh’s bowlers a torrid time to build on Kusal Mendis’ half-century as Sri Lanka achieved their biggest Twenty20 international run chase.

Earlier, the Tigers scored 193 for 5, bettering their previous best of 190-5 against Ireland in 2012. Soumya Sarkar hit his first T20I half-century while Mushfiqur Rahim was unbeaten on 66. Skipper Mahmud Ullah made 43.

Sri Lanka 194 for 4 (Kusal Mendis 53, Shanaka 42*, Islam 2-25) beat Bangladesh 193 for 5 (Mushfiqur 66, Sarkar 51, Jeevan Mendis 2-21) by six wickets.
