Morgan inspires thrilling win but NZ make final: 2018 Trans Tasman No 6 (Hamilton)

Skipper Eoin Morgan smashed an unbeaten 80 as England triumphed by two runs over New Zealand but the hosts made the tri-series final against Australia due to a superior net run rate.

New Zealand needed to score 175 to have the superior run rate and pip England for the finals berth.

Colin Munro hit 57 and Martin Guptil chipped in with 62. Colin de Grandhomme needed to hit a boundary for the win but failed as the hosts ended on 192 for four in a narrow loss.

Earlier, Dawid Malan (63) and Morgan guided England to an imposing 194-7.

England 194 for 7 (Morgan 80*, Malan 53) beat New Zealand 192 for 4 (Guptill 62, Munro 57) by two runs.
