Elgar ton in vain as Cummins strikes: 3rd Test, Day 1 (Newlands)

Opener Dean Elgar scored an unbeaten century but a hot spell of bowling from paceman Pat Cummins late in the day restricted South Africa to 266 for eight.

Elgar (121 not out) and AB de Villiers (64) in partnership took South Africa to 220-3 before Cummins struck.

Cummins removed A V de Villiers, Faf du Plessis and then the recalled Temba Bavuma and dangerous wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock, as the Proteas lost 4-22 after tea.

South Africa 266 for 8 (Elgar 121*, De Villiers 64, Cummins 4-64) v Australia.
