Root run out leads to England collapse: 1st Test, Day 1 (Edgbaston)

Skipper Joe Root was run out by Virat Kohli late in the day and that sparked an England collapse as they finished on 285-9 against India.

Root was on 80 when Virat Kohli's direct hit beat his dive. From there, England lost four wickets for 27 runs before stumps.

Earlier, Keaton Jennings (42) and Bairstow (70) supported Root as England dominated the first two sessions. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin ended with 4-60.

England 285-9 (Root 80, Bairstow 70, Jennings 42; Ashwin 4-60) vs India.
