Debutant Foakes rescues England: 1st Test, Day 1 (Galle)

Debutant wicket keeper Ben Foakes made a classy unbeaten 87 as England recovered to post a healthy 321-8 after winning the toss.

Sri Lanka bowled without purpose, dropped several chances and let England off the hook after the visitors were struggling at 103-5 at lunch.

Foakes shared partnerships of 61 with Buttler, 88 with Sam Curran and 54 with Rashid to mount a fine rear guard action.

England 321 for 8 (Foakes 87*, Jennings 46, Curran 48, Leach 14*, Dilruwan 4-70) v Sri Lanka.
