Sanath gets fastest ever 50, Pakistan take cup

In the 1996 Singer Final Pakistan squared off against recently crowned world cup champions Sri Lanka in the form of their lives.

After making a meagre 215 Pakistan looked out of it as Sanath Jayasuriya smashed 50 in just 17 balls the world record for the fastest fifty in ODI's. However Sri Lanka suddenly collapsed from 961 to 172 all out handing victory against the odds to Pakistan as the Lankans were bowled out in just 32.5 overs on a benign track. This match was played in the days prior to match fixing allegations became public.
