Smith century rescues Australia after collapse: 1st Test, Day 1 (Edgbaston)

Steve Smith returned from his 1 year ban to made a superb 144 to halt England's charge on the opening day of the Ashes.

Australia were struggling at 122-8 after winning the toss. Supported by Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon, Smith dragged Australia to a competitive 284 all out. Stuart Broad took 5-86.

England surviving two overs to close on 10-0.

England 10 for 0 trail Australia 284 (Smith 144, Broad 5-86) by 274 runs.
