Smith, Green set India a record target: 3rd Test, Day 4 (SCG)

Steve Smith and Cameron Green smashed the depleted Indian attack to set them a record chase of 407 to win the Test.

Smith (81 off 167 balls) missed out on a second hundred but rookie Green flayed a hapless Indian attack with a career best 84 off 132 balls that had four sixes. They declared at the stroke of tea, having scored 312 for 6.

In reply, Rohit Sharma struck a half-century as India got off to a solid start in its second innings; it still has a mountain to climb as it has to either survive 97 overs or score another 309 runs to claim victory.

India 244 and 98 for 2 (Sharma 52, Gill 31) need 309 runs to beat Australia 338 and 312 for 6 dec (Green 84, Smith 81, Labuschagne 73, Saini 2-54).
