Pooran smashes Afghanistan as records fall: 2024 T20 World Cup (Gros Islet)

Opener Nicholas Pooran blasted 98 runs from 53 balls as the West Indies beat Afghanistan by 104 runs.

Pooran struck eight sixes and helped the co-hosts pile up 218-5 - the highest score of the tournament so far.

Afghanistan allrounder Omarzai conceded a record 36 in one over during the Powerplay. Pooran smashed three sixes and a pair of fours during Omarzai’s second over which included some wayward bowling. The 36 runs equaled Yuvraj Singh's long-standing record for most runs in one over at a Men’s T20 World Cup.

In reply, Obed McCoy took 3-14 as Afghanistan was bowled out for 114 in 16.2 overs.

West Indies 218 for 5 (Pooran 98, Charles 43, Naib 2-14) beat Afghanistan 114 (Ibrahim 38, McCoy 3-14) by 104 runs.
