Rabada, Maharaj seal thrilling win over Windies: 2nd Test, Day 3 (Providence)

Paceman Kagiso Rabada and spinner Keshav Maharaj sealed a narrow 40 run win over the Windies handing South Africa a 1-0 series victory.

Maharaj and Rabada made inroads into the home team’s batting to dismiss them for 222, well short of the 262 runs needed for a first Test series win over the Proteas since 1992.

A 77-run partnership between Gudakesh Motie and Joshua Da Silva briefly gave the home side hope of pulling off a dramatic victory. But with 81 runs still required, Maharaj returned to dismiss both Motie lbw for 45 and Da Silva for 27.

South Africa 160 (Piedt 38*, Bedingham 28, Joseph 5-33, Seales 3-45) and 246 (Verreynne 59, Markram 51, Seales 6-61) beat West Indies 144 (Holder 54*, Mulder 4-32, Burger 3-49) and 222 (Motie 45, Maharaj 3-37, Rabada 3-50) by 40 runs.
