Asalanka, Hasaranga crush Windies, SL take 2-0 lead: 2nd ODI (Pallekele)

Skipper Charith Asalanka struck an unbeaten fifty to take Sri Lanka to victory after the West Indies suffered a top order collapse at Pallekele in the 2nd ODI.

The match was reduced to 44 overs per side after a rain-delayed start.

A 55-run partnership between Asalanka (62 not out) and Janith Liyanage (24) edged Sri Lanka to victory with 34 balls remaining.

Earlier, the Windies collapsed to 58-8 after being inserted to bat first. A defiant 119-run partnership between Sherfane Rutherford (80) and Gudakesh Motie (50) for the ninth wicket enabled the visitors to post 189. Wanindu Hasaranga took 4-40.

Sri Lanka 190 for 5 (Asalanka 62*, Joseph 2-30) beat West Indies 189 all out (Rutherford 80, Motie 50, Hasaranga 4-40, Theekshana 3-25, Fernando 3-35) by five wickets.
