The Dambulla Stadium was built by Sri Lanka Cricket in 2000. It is the only cricket stadium situated in the dry zone in Sri Lanka enabling cricket to be played in the monsoon season.
The stadium capacity is 16,800. Floodlights were installed in 2003 but they received much criticism over years. The floodlights were upgraded in 2024.
