Craig White was born in England but grew up in Australia. He was an allrounder who batted right handed. Initially, he was an off spinner but moved to fast bowling later in his career when he had what was deemed to be a suspect action with his spin. He was capable of late reverse swing whilst bowling very fast in the 90mph range.
He played for Yorkshire as an overseas player when the county had a strict "born in Yorkshire" rule. He subsequently captained Yorkshire with great success.
White was very inconsistent in his Test performances and could not command a regular place in an era under Ray Illingworth's management where a fast bowling allrounder was a critical component. He made his debut against New Zealand in the 1st Test at Trent Bridge in 1994. He scored his maiden Test century in India in 2001. Overall, he played 30 Tests scoring 1052 runs at 24.47. He also took 59 wickets with a best of 5-52 against the West Indies in 2000.
In first class cricket, White played 265 matches, scoring 11,949 runs at 32.91 with a best of 186. He took 395 first-class wickets at an average of 28.47, with a best of eight for 55.
