Paul A. Nixon was a wicketkeeper-batsman who represented England in limited-overs cricket and enjoyed a distinguished county career with Leicestershire.
A combative left-hander and an energetic presence behind the stumps, Nixon played 355 first-class matches, scoring 14,498 runs at an average of 34.35 including 21 centuries and 72 fifties, with a highest score of 173 not out. As wicketkeeper, he completed 889 catches and 67 stumpings.
Nixon made his international debut for England against Australia at the MCG in 2007, playing 19 One Day Internationals scoring 297 runs at an average of 21.21 with a top score of 49, and claiming 20 catches and 3 stumpings. He also played a single T20 against Australia in Sydney in 2007.
Known for his sharp glovework, and ability to rally teams under pressure, Nixon was a key figure in Leicestershire’s T20 Cup victories in 2004 and 2006. After retiring in 2011, he moved into coaching and later became head coach of Leicestershire, bringing his trademark enthusiasm and tactical acumen to the next generation of cricketers.
