Parthiv Patel was born 9 March 1985. He is a wicketkeeper-batsman who made his first class debut in 2001.
Patel made his Test debut against England in 2002 after Ajay Ratra was injured. This made him the youngest wicket-keeper in Test history at 17 years 152 days, eclipsing the previous record of Pakistan's Hanif Mohammad (which stood at 17 years 300 days since 1952).
Patel made his ODI debut against New Zealand in January 2003.
Patel was unable to regain his spot after MS Dhoni took over the gloves in 2005 in all formats for India. He has played 20 Tests with a top score of 69.
