Andrew Hall was born on July 31, 1975 in Johannesburg, Transvaal. He was a right handed batsman and medium pace bowler.
He survived a mugging at an ATM, receiving a gun shot wound to his hand which fortunately did not inhibit his cricket.
Hall was initially labelled as a specialist limited overs player. He made his ODI debut against the Windies at Durban in 1999. He was regular member of the Proteas ODI squad.
He made his Test debut against Australia at Cape Town in 2002. He made a sparkling 70.
Hall's maiden Test century was a slow, painstaking effort against India at Kanpur in 2004. He was promoted to opening the batting and scored 163 off 454 balls.
Hall retired after the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies. He had taken his career best figures of 5-18 to demolish England in Barbados in the World Cup clash to win the man of the match award.
