Michael Robin Bynoe, born 23 February 1941 in Black Rock, St Michael, Barbados, was a right-handed opening batsman who also bowled occasional left-arm medium pace.
He represented West Indies in four Test matches between 1959 and 1967, debuting as a teenager on the tour of India and Pakistan in 1958–59. In his brief Test career, he scored 111 runs at an average of 18.50, with a highest score of 48, and claimed one wicket with best figures of 1 for 5.
At first-class level, Bynoe enjoyed far greater success, playing 56 matches and scoring 3,572 runs at an impressive average of 41.05. He struck 6 centuries and 20 half-centuries, with a top score of 190. Primarily representing Barbados in the regional competition, he was regarded as a technically correct and composed top-order batsman capable of building substantial innings.
Although his opportunities at Test level were limited, Bynoe’s domestic record underlined his quality in an era when competition for places in the West Indies side was exceptionally strong. His two separate Test call-ups—first as an 18-year-old prospect and later during the 1966–67 tour of India—reflect both early promise and sustained performances in regional cricket.
