Kusal Perera was born on 17 Aug 1990 in Kalubovila, Colombo. He is a left handed wicketkeeper/batsman who made his first class debut for Colts in 2009.
After representing Sri Lanka in the 2009 Under 19 World Cup, he made his ODI debut against Australia in Adelaide in 2013 when Chandimal was injured.
Perera made his Test debut against India in 2015.
In November 2015, the ICC banned Perera after he had tested positive for 19-Norandrostenedione, an anabolic steroid prohibited under WADA’s Prohibited List. In May 2016, the ICC lifted the ban.
In January 2016, Perera alerted SL Cricket regarding an approach made by bookies to him and left-arm spinner Rangana Herath to underperform during the Test against West Indies at Galle in October 2015.
