Boyd Rankin was born on 5 July 1984 at Londonderry . He is a tall (6'7") right arm fast bowler who made his first class debut for Ireland against UAE in 2007 . He made his international debut when he was selected in the ODI against Bermuda in 2007 in Nairobi . He is noted for an explosive entry in the 2007 World Cup as he helped Ireland down Pakistan and Bangadesh and progress through to the Super 8 round.
Rankin has a high action that extracts steep bounce. He stated that his action is modelled on bowlers like Curtly Ambrose and Glenn McGrath who "hit the deck from just back of a length outside off stump".
Rankin had a change of heart and wanted to play for England - he stopped playing for Ireland in Aug 2012. He made his debut for England against New Zealand in the 1st T20 match on June 25, 2013.
