Doug Walters was an attacking batsman, and also as known as a larrikin for his impish fun filled lifestyle and deadpan humour.
At a tender age of 17, Walters, batting at No. 7, made his first class debut with a splash for NSW. He scored a fearless 50 in the second innings against an attack that included Wes Hall.
Walters made his debut in Test cricket on 10 December 1965 at The Gabba against England in the 1965-66 - and went onto play until 1981.
Walters made a memorable Test debut at the age of 19 in 1965. Coming in to bat at No. 6 with score reading 4 for 125, Walters scored 155, thus becoming only the ninth Australian to score a century on his debut.

However, in every other country round the world — Australia, West Indies, India, South Africa — he averaged 56.24. Walters toured England four times but never got a Test hundred.
