Matthew P. Breetzke was born on 3 November 1998 in Port Elizabeth. He is a right-handed batsman and occasional wicketkeeper who first came to prominence as captain of South Africa’s Under-19 side at the 2018 ICC U19 World Cup.
He has represented Eastern Province, the Warriors, Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, and the Dolphins in domestic competitions, where his consistency and temperament have marked him out as a reliable run-scorer.
Breetzke made his T20I debut for South Africa in 2021 against Ireland and has since been included in limited-overs squads, reflecting his growing stature in the national setup. With a solid technique, calm presence at the crease, and the ability to adapt across formats, he is seen as a player with the potential to become a regular fixture in South Africa’s batting lineup in the years ahead.
