Noor Ahmad Lakanwal is a promising young left-arm wrist-spinners in world cricket. Born on 3 January 2005 in Khost, Afghanistan, Noor displayed exceptional talent from an early age, making his first-class debut at just 14.
His remarkable progress attracted international attention, and in 2020 he became the youngest player to feature in Australia’s Big Bash League when he joined the Melbourne Renegades. He made his T20 international debut against Zimbabwe in June 2022, taking four wickets and announcing his arrival on the international stage.
Noor’s development continued with his selection for Afghanistan’s ODI team and participation in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. His distinctive left-arm wrist-spin, ability to generate turn and variations in flight have made him a dangerous proposition for batters, particularly in the middle overs.
He subsequently represented Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League, playing an important role in their successful campaign to reach the 2023 final. His performances in international cricket and franchise competitions have demonstrated maturity, control and a natural instinct for taking wickets.
In the 2025 IPL season, Noor enjoyed a spectacular campaign with Chennai Super Kings, capturing 24 wickets in 14 matches and establishing himself among the competition’s leading bowlers. He has also featured in several major franchise tournaments, including the Big Bash League, SA20, Pakistan Super League and Major League Cricket.
