Philip Allen Emery, born on June 25, 1964, in St Ives, New South Wales, was a wicketkeeper-batsman.
Educated at Newington College and Shore School, where he captained both cricket and rugby teams, Emery showcased his athletic versatility early on. He played 120 first-class matches for New South Wales between 1987 and 1999, amassing over 3,200 runs and setting state records for most dismissals in both first-class (378) and one-day (81) formats .
Internationally, Emery’s career was brief yet notable; he stepped in for the injured Ian Healy during the 1994 Pakistan tour, becoming the only wicketkeeper to play a Test match for Australia between Healy’s debut and Adam Gilchrist’s retirement .
Beyond his playing days, Emery contributed to cricket through coaching and administration, earning induction into the Cricket NSW Hall of Fame in 2024 .
