Late Madushanka hat trick stuns Zimbabwe: 1st ODI (Harare)

Dilshan Madushanka delivered a superb last over as Sri Lanka edged out Zimbabwe by just seven runs in a thrilling 1st ODI at Harare.

Batting first, Sri Lanka posted 298/6, built around Pathum Nissanka’s fluent 76 before Janith Liyanage (70* off 47) and Kamindu Mendis (57 off 36) lifted the innings with a late 137-run stand.

Zimbabwe responded well, with Ben Curran (70) and Sikandar Raza (92) leading strong contributions that carried them close to the target.

At 284/5, the hosts looked poised for victory, but Madushanka produced a sensational final-over hat-trick—removing Raza, Brad Evans, and Richard Ngarava—to finish with 4/62 and snatch victory for Sri Lanka.

With the win, Sri Lanka take a 1–0 lead in the two-match series ahead of the decider on 31 August.

Sri Lanka 298 for 6 (Nissanka 76, Liyanage 70*, Kamindu 57, Ngarava 2-34) beat Zimbabwe 291 for 8 (Raza 92, Curran 70, Williams 57, Madushanka 4-62, Fernando 3-50) by seven runs.
