Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal dominated play as India took firm control on the opening day of the second Test against the West Indies in Delhi, finishing at 318 for 2 after winning the toss and electing to bat.
Jaiswal produced a superb unbeaten 173 that featured 22 fours and marked his seventh Test century. He anchored India’s innings from the start, adding strong partnerships with KL Rahul, who made a steady contribution before falling to spinner Jomel Warrican, and later with new captain Shubman Gill, who remained 20 not out at stumps.
Warrican was the only real threat for the visitors, claiming both wickets to fall. With India losing just two wickets all day, the home side are now in a commanding position heading into Day 2, well placed to build a huge first-innings total.
India 318 for 2 (Jaiswal 173*, Sai Sudharsan 87, Warrican 2-60) vs West Indies.
