Head hits sparkling century to dominate England: 1st Test, Day 3 (Gabba)

Travis Head struck a superb century as Australia tightened their grip on the match after another dominant display with both bat and ball on Day 3 at the Gabba.

Resuming with a healthy first-innings lead, Travis Head extended his blistering form from the previous evening to finish on 152, helping Australia reach 425 and secure a 278-run advantage.

England’s bowlers toiled on a lively but fair surface, with Ollie Robinson the pick of the attack with 3-58.

When England batted again, their top order faced the pressure of Australia’s pace trio. Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood.

England fought hard to be 220 for 2 at stumps, still behind and facing an uphill battle to stay in the contest. Joe Root and Dawid Malan produced a superb partnership of 159.

Australia’s dominance across the first three days all but ensured they would go on to claim a convincing victory in the series opener.

At stumps Day 3: England 2nd innings 220/2 — Root 86, Malan 80; Australia 425 (Head 152, Warner 94; Robinson 3/58); Australia lead by 58 runs.
