Head piles on pain on England: 3rd Test, Day 3 (Adelaide)

Australia tightened their grip on the third Ashes Test at Adelaide on Day 3, leaving England staring at defeat.

The hosts first dismissed England for 286, securing a handy first-innings lead after Ben Stokes’ fighting 83 offered brief resistance as he added a century run stand for the 9th wicket with Jofra Archer (51).

Australia then batted with authority in their second innings, reaching 271/4 by stumps and stretching their overall lead beyond 350 runs. Travis Head dominated the day with a commanding unbeaten century, well supported by Alex Carey, as Australia moved firmly into a match-winning position heading into Day 4.

Australia 371 and 271 for 4 (Head 142*, Carey 52*) lead England 286 (Stokes 83, Archer 51, Boland 3-45, Cummins 3-69) by 356 runs.
