Analysis: How sensational Brook century rescued England, guided them into semi finals

Harry Brook’s blazing his maiden T20 international hundred dragged England past Pakistan and into the semi-finals of the men's T20 World Cup 2026 with a game to spare, almost single-handedly.

Brook’s 100 off 51 balls was an innings of elite game awareness as much as strokeplay.

Walking in at 58/4 with Shaheen Afridi in full rhythm, Brook initially prioritised control — rotating strike, targeting the fifth bowler, and refusing high-risk shots against Pakistan’s strike options. Once the required rate edged above nine, he flipped the tempo, using his strong base to access straight boundaries and midwicket with minimal swing.

Crucially, he paced the chase so England never faced a “panic over” at the death — even as wickets fell around him.
