South Africa cruise past Windies after Markram blitz: T20 World Cup S8 No 47 (Ahmedabad)

South Africa continued their strong T20 World Cup campaign with a commanding nine-wicket win over West Indies in Ahmedabad.

The Windies posted 176/8 in 20 overs, built around Romario Shepherd’s 52 off 37, but Lungi Ngidi (3/30) and Kagiso Rabada (2/22) ensured the total never spiralled beyond reach. Despite a competitive surface, South Africa’s bowlers controlled the key phases, especially at the death, to keep the target within striking distance.

In reply, South Africa powered to 177/1 in 16.1 overs, completing the chase with ruthless efficiency. Aiden Markram led the charge with a fluent 82 off 46 balls, anchoring an innings that never allowed West Indies to build scoreboard pressure. The emphatic finish — achieved with 23 balls to spare — underlined South Africa’s batting depth and momentum heading into the business end of the tournament.

South Africa 177 for 1 (Markram 82*, de Kock 47, Rickelton 45*) beat West Indies 176 for 8 (Shepherd 52, Holder 49, Ngidi 3-20, Rabada 2-22, Bosch 2-31) by nine wickets.
