Kusal shines as SL thrash Pakistan in consolation win: 3rd T20 (Rawalpindi)

Skipper Kusal Mendis struck a quick fifty as Sri Lanka produced a commanding batting performance to defeat Pakistan by eight wickets, chasing down a target of 169 with 172/2.

Kusal Mendis led the charge with an unbeaten 87, while Kamindu Mendis provided excellent support with an unbeaten 40. The pair combined effectively to ensure Sri Lanka completed the chase comfortably, demonstrating composure and attacking intent against Pakistan’s bowling attack.

Pakistan had earlier posted 168/8, with Sahibzada Farhan top-scoring with an impressive 76. However, the visitors struggled to build sustained partnerships as Sri Lanka’s bowlers applied pressure through the middle and latter stages of the innings.

Dasun Shanaka was particularly effective, claiming three wickets for 21 runs to restrict Pakistan to a total that proved insufficient.

Sri Lanka’s chase was marked by excellent shot selection and a strong partnership between Kusal and Kamindu, who guided their side home with 10 balls to spare. Despite Mohammad Imran taking one wicket for 31 runs, Pakistan were unable to contain the Sri Lankan batsman.

Sri Lanka 172 for 2 (Kusal 87*, Kamindu 40*, Imran 1-31) beat Pakistan 168 for 8 (Farhan 76, Shanaka 3-21) by eight wickets.
