Warrican five triggers Bangladesh collapse: 1st Test, Day 2 (Mirpur)

Spinner Jomel Warrican spun his web as Bangladesh were dismissed for 272 on the second day of the first Test against West Indies in Mirpur, losing their final seven wickets for just 59 runs after resuming at 213 for three.

Shadman Islam top-scored with a fine 105 from 234 balls, completing his century after beginning the day unbeaten on 99. Litton Das remained unbeaten on 34, while Towhid Hridoy contributed 42.

Warrican led the West Indies attack with five wickets for 53 runs, supported by Joshua Bishop, who made important breakthroughs during the morning session.

West Indies reached 134 for four at stumps, trailing Bangladesh by 138 runs. John Campbell top-scored with an attacking 54, helping the visitors make progress in their reply, but Bangladesh struck back with timely wickets to prevent West Indies from taking control.

With six wickets remaining and two days completed, the visitors had made a promising start but still faced a substantial task to overhaul Bangladesh’s first-innings total and establish a lead.

West Indies 134 for 4 (Campbell 54, Chanderpaul 43*, Taijul 2-44) trail Bangladesh 272 (Shadman 105, Hridoy 42, Warrican 5-53, Joseph 2-41) by 138 runs.
