Bangladesh stumble as Greaves edges Windies ahead: 2nd Test, Day 2 (Sylhet)

Allrounder Justin Greaves shone with both the bat and ball as Bangladesh ended the second day of the second Test against West Indies at 88 for three in Sylhet.

Bangladesh are trailing by 268 runs after the visitors posted 356 in their first innings. Hasan Mahmud was the outstanding performer with the ball, claiming six wickets for 90 runs to restrict West Indies after Amir Jangoo’s magnificent 133 and Kevin Wickham’s 61 had put them in a strong position.

Justin Greaves contributed 51 as the visitors added 121 runs to their overnight total of 235 for four.

Bangladesh lost three early wickets in their reply, with Nayeem Hasan dismissed for five, Tanzid Hasan scoring 16 and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto falling for 18. Towhid Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim provided some resistance, putting together an unbeaten 37-run partnership to take Bangladesh to stumps.

Hridoy was 29 not out and Mushfiqur unbeaten on 19, but the hosts face a considerable challenge on the third day to reduce the deficit and avoid following on. Greaves took 1-10.

Bangladesh 88 for 3 (Mushfiqur 19, Hridoy 29, Greaves 1-10) trail West Indies 356 (Jangoo 133, Wickham 61, Mahmud 6-90) by 268 runs.
