Forced retirement: Hayden pulls stumps

After being dropped for the ODI and T20 series Australian batsman Matthew Hayden announced his retirement after 103 Tests and 161 oneday internationals.

Hayden had the option of forcing his way into the South African touring party but elected to quit the game.

He scored 8625 runs at an average of 50.73 during his Test career but averaged less than 20 in Australia's recent 2-1 Test series loss to South Africa their first home series defeat in 16 years.
