Legend: Allan Border shaped Australian cricket

Allan Border was a top quality left hand batsman and an effective spinner. He took over the Australian captaincy at a difficult time after the tearful resignation of Kim Hughes in 1984. He was then struck by the banning of the rebels that toured South Africa just ahead of the 1985 Ashes tour. He worked in partnership with Australia's first ever coach Bob Simpson to rebuild the fighting spirit of the team. This clip highlights his career and the impact that he had on the game. Over a long career from 1978 to 1992 Border broke many records and still retains the world record for the number of consecutive Test appearances of 153 and the number of Tests as captain.
